This summer, 3M”s Abrasive System Division hosted the week-long event in Minneapolis, where 12 contestants faced off in a series of challenges. The competition not only tests their technical abilities but also dives into their personal stories, offering viewers a closer look at the dedication and talent behind the craft.
The series, now streaming on YouTube, features eight episodes airing weekly through November 12. Contestants use cutting-edge tools like 3M™ Cubitron™ 3 and Scotch-Brite™ abrasives to tackle demanding tasks that push their skills to the limit.
With a shortage of over 400,000 welders in the U.S., according to the American Welding Society, Clash of the Grinders aims to inspire young people to explore welding and skilled trades as rewarding career paths. "The skilled trades are the backbone of our infrastructure and manufacturing sectors," said Alisa Schilmoeller, 3M”s marketing manager for Abrasive Solutions.
The competition is supported by 3M Gives, the National Coalition of Certification Centers, Weld.com, sponsor Linde, and guest host Nate Bowman (@WeldScientist). Together, they aim to raise awareness of the opportunities in skilled trades, offering competitive wages and career growth potential.
3M continues to lead in innovation, using science to address global challenges and improve lives.
