A gas lens diffuser is a key tool to improve welding quality and optimize gas usage. It replaces the standard collet body, which has gas outlet holes.
In TIG welding, common issues like sudden stops or untidy joints often arise due to contamination caused by turbulence in the shielding gas. The gas lens diffuser solves this problem by minimizing turbulence at the nozzle outlet, providing better protection to the weld area. This is achieved by generating a smooth and uniform shielding gas flow.
This diffuser is equipped with multiple steel mesh screens that help distribute the gas evenly around the tungsten electrode, the arc, and the metal fusion zone.
It’s important to highlight that this diffuser requires less gas flow to achieve adequate coverage, allowing us to save up to 30% of our gas supply.
Additionally, it allows us to extend the electrode slightly further, improving work comfort and visibility of the area.
Another advantage is that it enables us to make wider welds by offering greater freedom of movement without the electrode "escaping" the shielding gas.
Keep in mind that not all diffusers will be compatible with your torch. It’s best to take the tool to your supplier’s counter and test that all the parts fit, considering the brand to make the selection easier. If you’re buying online, be extra careful.
Important: You’ll also need to replace the ceramic nozzle, as the gas lens diffuser is wider, and your current nozzle won’t fit. Don’t worry—the change only affects the “back” of the cup, while the nozzle’s outlet size remains standard.
