What Is Pailería?

Definition of PAILERÍA and more information about this discipline in today’s metalworking dictionary.

What Is PAILERÍA in spanish?

PAILERÍA could be considered a branch of metalworking specialized in the construction of metal structures for the conduction, storage, and transportation of fluids. This technique is also known as boiler-making and is used to create storage tanks for food, wine, and fuels, as well as for the fabrication of industrial pipelines.

This discipline requires bringing welding quality to its highest level, as the containers or conduits are often designed to hold pressurized or flammable fluids. Additionally, the weld bead must be perfectly watertight, demanding a high level of specialization and skill from the welder to achieve a uniform and strong fusion in all positions.

In this field, it is common to see specialized processes such as:

  • Oxy-fuel cutting
  • Plasma cutting
  • Guillotine and other cold cutting methods
  • Turning and grinding
  • Stamping and punching
  • SMAW welding
  • MIG / MAG welding
  • Riveting

It is worth noting that welding is not always used as the method to join parts. In some cases, when dealing with lightweight air-conducting pipes, riveting is used. In this case, the activity closely resembles sheet metal work.

When dealing with systems exposed to high temperatures or high pressures, the manufacturing and installation process is often referred to as boiler-making.

In the food industry, it is very common to use stainless steel for ducts and storage tanks due to its hygienic properties.

What Does a Pailero Do?

  • Trace, cut, machine, and shape plates, profiles, and pipes
  • Weld components
